Andhra Pradesh> In a setback to Andhra Pradesh's ruling Congress, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) bagged four assembly seats while the YSR Congress and an independent won one seat each. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had a narrow lead on a seventh seat. The by-elections to seven assembly seats, six of them in Telangana region, were held on Sunday.
The BJP has lost an important by-election in Gujarat. The BJP had won this seat for the Gujarat Assembly the last four times. Babu Singh Thakori from the Congress defeated BJP's D D Patel by about 8,000 votes.
Tamil Nadu> AIADMK retain the Sankaran kovil (SC) Assembly seat by over 68,000 votes. DMK's Jawahar Suryakumar was second ahead of MDMK and DMDK.
Karnataka > Congress won the Udupi Chikmagalur seat in the Karnataka Lok Sabha by-poll with a margin of over 40,000 votes. The seat was earlier held by Karnataka chief Minister Sadananda Gowda.
Kerala> The ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) won the Piravom by-election with Anup Jacob defeating his Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) rival by more than 12,000 votes. Anup Jacob, 34, son of former minister TM Jacob, won over his father's old rival MJ Jacob by 12,070 votes.
Odisha> Ruling Biju Janata Dal candidate Ranendra Pratap Swain defeats Congress candidate Suresh Mohapatra by 47,390votes in Athgarh byelection. In the end of last round of vote counting BJD's Ranendra Pratap Swain gets 87, 306 and Congress candidate gets 40214. In the end of couting vote BJP candidate able together only 2452.
