Mandi is one of the important constituencies of Himachal Pradesh state due to the reason that senior congress leader and a former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh,  Virbhadra Singh contested from here.  He won the election by defeating his main rival Maheshwar Singh of BJP. In total there were 6 candidates in the fray.
