Key Constituency : Sivaganga

Sivaganga is one of the important constituencies of Tamilnadu state due to the reason that senior congress leader and home minister of the  present UPA govt. P. Chidambaram contested from here and won the election with a slender margin.  He was the sitting MP from this seat in 2004 general election and in 2009 general election his main rivals were Raja Kannappan R.S. (ADMK) and M. G.  Devar (BSP).  In total there were 20 candidates in the fray.
