Ambala is one of the important constituencies of Haryana state due to the reason that congress leader Ms. Selja contested from this seat which she won in both the general elections (2004 & 2009). Her main rivals in 2009 elections were Rattan Lal Kataria (BJP) and Dalvir Singh (HJCBL). In total there were 7 candidates in the fray.
