Nitish Kumar was born on March 1st 1951 in Bakhtiarpur, District – Patna. He has a Engineering degree to his credit. He is one of the growing political figure in the Indian national politics and in the state of Bihar. Currently, he is the chief minister of Bihar.
He has been politically active since the young age and was a member of the political activist in the JP movement during the emergency era. He is also a founder member of Samta Party. He has been president of the Bihar unit of Yuva Lok Dal in 1987-88 and secretary general of Bihar unit of Janata Dal in 1989. He was first elected to parliament in 1989. In 1991, he was relected to the parliament and served as Minister of state for Agriculture and cooperation. He has been re-eelcted to the parliament and cabinet minister in the NDA government during 1999 to 2004. In 2000, he became the chief minister of Bihar for a week. In 2004, he was appointed as the leader of Janata Dal (U) parliamentary party in Lok Sabha.
In 2005 Bihar state elections, JD(U) led NDA alliance defeated the Rabri Devi led RJD and became chief minister of Bihar.
He is one of the good orater and influential politician of JD(U) and is one of the star campaigners for the party.
NDA did well under his leadership from Bihar in the General Elections 2009. However, in recent Bihar state assembly bye-elections, NDA perfromed poorly.
In 2004 General Elections, he was elected as a MP from the Nalanda parliamentary constituency.
