Jaya Prada is an Indian Film actress turned politician, was born on April 3, 1962 in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh in a middle class family. Her original name is Lalitha Rani.
Her acting career started in South Indian movies and later she acted in several Bollywood movies. She also acted in a few Marathi films. Jaya Prada married the producer Srikanth Nahata in 1986, who was already married and had 3 children.
Jaya Prada entered into politics in late nineties and started a new career as a politician. Initially, she joined TDP and became the Rajya Sabha MP, but, later on due to the differences with Chandrababu Naidu (President of TDP), she left TDP and joined Samajwadi Party. In 2004 general elections, she won from Rampur. parliamentary constituency on SP’s ticket.
She re-contested and won from Rampur parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh on SP ticket in General Elections 2009.
