Naveen Patnaik, the son of the late Biju Patnaik (former chief minister of Orissa) is currently the chief minister of Orissa state.  He was born on October 16, 1946.  After his early education at Doon school he did  B.A. from Delhi University and is a bachelor (unmarried).

He was elected as a member of 11th Lok Sabha in by-election from Aska parliamentary constituency after his father’s death.  In the12th Lok Sabha, he was elected from the same constituency and launched a political party named Biju Janata Dal in 1998.  In 2000, he became the chief minister of the state with the support of BJP and has been heading the government since.  Later, he parted away from National Democratic Alliance.

He has written three books and is a founder member of Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage.
