Communist Party of India (CPI) Communist Party of India (CPI) is one of the oldest national political parties of India. CPI was founded in year 1925. It works on the ideology of the communism. CPI is also the member of the Left Front who supported the UPA government from outside (without participating in the government), but withdrew its support to the government on the basis of the difference of opinion on Nuclear Deal recently. In West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala, CPI is a part of the Left front Government & is the only national party of India which has contested all the General Elections with the same electoral symbol. In the 14th Lok Sabha it has 10 members as opposed to 4 elected for the 13th Lok Sabha. In the 15th Lok Sabha elections in 2009, CPI's performance was down significantly similar to other left parties. Its tally was down to 6 seats from 10 of 2004 elections.
