Samajwadi Party (SP) Samajwadi Party (SP) is one of the recognized state political party. SP has a strong electoral base in the Uttar Pradesh. The SP was founded in 1992, subsequent to the split of Janata Dal in to small fragment of several regional parties. The SP’s ideology is based on the democratic socialism. In the recent state elections, the SP has broadened its base to other states of the country and have shown a growth in its electoral base. In the 14th Lok Sabha, it contested in 23 states of India and has 36 members, making SP the fourth largest party. Besides winning 35 seats from UP, SP also won a seat from the Uttranchal. In the assembly elections of the UP in 2007, SP won only 96 seats as compared to 146 in the previous assembly election. Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav, president of the SP has been the chief minister of the UP state for the three terms. A month before the 15th Lok Sabha Elections, SP joined hands with RJD and LJNSP to fight the elections together.
