Third Front

Third Front (TF) was formed before the 15th Lok Sabha elections (2009) with an ideology to combine various state and national parties to fight the political might of BJP and Congress. Formal launch of the third Front was on 12th March 2009.

The TF is an outcome of the initiative of JD(S) chief Mr. Deve Gowda (former Prime Minister of India) to bring all the secular & non-congress parties together. Formation of TF created huge speculation among the political circles and media recently and was busy analyzing the consequences of its emergence on the outcome of General Elections 2009. Even in the initial stages, differences among the leaders from different parties were visible on seat sharing arrangements in some of the states.

Current members  of the national alliance are:

1. Communist Party of India (CPI)
2. Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM)
3. Forward Bloc
4. Republican Party of India (RPI)
5. Telugu Desam Party (TDP)
6. Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)
7. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
8. Janata Dal Secular (JDS)

In 2009 General Elections, Third Front could not perfrom well and win only 79 seats in total. The performance was severaly hamperd by the differences of opinion among its member party's leaders about who will be the prime ministerial candidate.
