Oct 13, 2009, According to exit poll predictions made by IBN-Lokmat and Star News-Nielson Congress is expected to perform well in the election of three states held today. The Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance is likely to win in Maharashtra, according to IBN-Lokmat projections. No forecast was available for the third, Arunachal Pradesh.
Maharashtra:
The ruling Congress-NCP alliance will win 135 to 145 seats in the 288-member assembly with the Congress garnering 75-85 seats and the NCP 55-65 seats.
A total of 105-115 seats are projected for the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition with 45-55 seats to the BJP and 55-65 seats to the Shiv Sena.
In an another exit poll survey carried out by Star News-Nielson, the predictions for the Congress are of 89 seats and NCP 48 . A total of 137 seats for INC-NCP alliance, falling short marginally of the clear majority mark of 145.
According to the Star News-Nielson exit poll, the Shiv Sena and BJP will get a total of 123 seats (62 seats for BJP and 51 for the Shivsena).
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is predicted to win 12 seats.
Haryana:
The Star News-Nielson’s exit poll predicted the ruling Congress party will win 57 of the 90 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will win 18.
Counting of votes for all the three states is scheduled for Oct 22, 2009
