Results By-elections 2010

23rd Jan. 2010, the results for bye elections declare today are as following:

46-Ellenabad Assembly Constituency, Haryana:

Abhey Singh Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won the crucial by-election for the Ellenabad assembly seat in Haryana by defeating his Congress rival Bharat Singh Beniwal by 6,227 votes. Abhey Singh, younger son of INLD president and former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, received 64813 votes whereas the Congress candidate get 58586 votes.

10-Chotila Assembly Constituency, Gujarat :

BJP candidate Bharat Khorani today won the Assembly by-election from Chotila constituency in Surendranagar district defeating his nearest rival Shivji Chauhan of Shiv Sena by a margin of 22,368 votes. Bharat Khorani received 49,376 votes, while Chauhan got 27,008. The Congress candidate Niratben Dhoriya finished third with 24,233 votes.

137-Bhiwandi East Assembly Constituency, Maharashtra:

Shiv Sena's Candidate Rupesh Laxman Mhatre bagged the high-profile Bhiwandi East bye-election by defeating Samajwadi Party's Chief Abu Asim Azmi's son Farhan Abu Asim Azmi. Shiv Sena won this Assembly seat by 1676 votes. Mhatre got 35,376 votes while Azmi polled 33,700 in the January 20 by-election necessitated by Abu Azmi's resignation from the seat.

22nd Dec 2009, The following programme has been approved by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for holding bye-elections to fill the casual vacancies in the State Legislative Assemblies of Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The Election Commission has decided to hold bye-elections to fill up the vacancies indicated below:

* 28th Dec. 2009, In a press release Election Commission of India announced the postponement of elections for the Pennagaram constituency in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Commission's decison came after consulation with various political parties and has decided to postpone the said bye election for the time being and to hold it later having regard to the provisions of section 151A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
