Kerala

Kerala state came into being Under the state reorganization act 1956, which lead to the merger of the Travancore-Cochin state and the Malabar into Kerala state. Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India and is politically, one the important state of Indian union. Principal language of the state is Malayalam. Population of the state is 31,841,374. Area of the state is 38,863 sq km. It has 20 parliamentary constituencies.

In the state assembly elections 2011, UDF (alliance led by INC) got a thin majority in the state assembly.

17th May 2011: Mr. Oommen Chandy is to be sworn in as Chief Minister on Wednesday.
