Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is an important state of India and is situated on the southern peninsula. Tamil Nadu is mostly an agriculture base economy and gradually there is  a drive to make it a knowledge based industrial state. It has a population of 62,405,679 habitants and an area of 1,30,058 sq km. This state has 39 parliamentary constituencies and outcome general elections in this state usually have a strong say in the make up of the central government. Principal language of the state is Tamil.

In the state assembly elections 2011, AIADMK won the elections comprehensively defeating DMK-INC alliance.

16th May 2011: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader J Jayalalitha, 63, was yesterday sworn-in as Tamil Nadu chief minister for a third time.
